Julissa Ferreras-Copeland (ne: Julissa Ferreras-Copeland), was elected to the city council in November 2009. In June 2017 she announced that she would not run for re-election.
Ferreras-Copeland was deemed by many as a front runner to become the next Council speaker. In announcing her decision she told Politico that the decision was made so as to enable her to spend more time with her husband and son. Julissa Ferreras-Copeland will not seek reelection. She will complete her term at the end of 2017.
