The Jackson Heights based Hibridos Collective is an interdisciplinary collaborative working to re-envision neighborhood spaces through community-based arts practices. The Hibridos (pronounced e-bree-dos) collective emerged from the need to create a thriving creative community in collaboration with other artists, activists, and concerned residents.
Part of re-imagining the neighborhood required thinking about where artists could gather to practice and showcase their art, which meant addressing the need for space. The Collective soon realized the possibilities for creative place and space making related to public art and cultural programming.
Among Hibridos' accomplishes are the following:
- Hibridos leads the care and development of the Leverich Cemetery, with those efforts detailed here.
- Hibridos' Diversity Map provides guidance on neighborhood space for creative activities.
